Popcorn Fundraiser Kicked Off

Posted by admin on Oct 15 2017 - 10:03pm
It is time once again for the annual Boy Scout popcorn fundraiser.  As in the past, we are requesting that all scouts (including Eagle scouts) participate in this sale either by selling popcorn or participating in the buyout option.  The goal for each scout is $200 in sales or an $80 buyout.  This is the ONLY fundraiser that the troop participates in for the year.  The popcorn sale helps to defray the costs of troop operation including, for example, purchasing merit badges and rank advancements, equipment purchase and maintenance, and many other expenses.

In addition to providing critical funding for Troop 755, selling popcorn also helps to defray the costs of operating the Great Lakes Council, camps, programs and professional staffs and many other activities.  There would be no Scouting without the program and infrastructure that the Council provides.

You can either pick up popcorn to fill previously-taken orders or to go door-to-door and return what you don’t sell.  We will have a popcorn sale kick-off and distribute order forms at the first Troop meeting on September 11.  Scouts can also sell popcorn online – the troop receives a 50% commission on online sales this year; to sell online, scouts must have an online account at the Trails End website.

We will NOT be participating in the individual scout prizes shown on the prize sheet included with the order form.  Instead, we will be offering gift cards to Amazon and REI; please see the attached 2017 Popcorn Sale Information attachment for troop and council prizes.

Troop prizes will include $16 for every $100 sold over $200 (i.e., if a scout sells $400, they will receive a $32 campership to spend on campouts, high adventure trips or summer camp).

This program would also extend the age limit from 18 to 21, so this year's seniors can continue with scouting and attend summer camp.
