You have an opportunity to earn the Woodworking MB, and help other scouts that are on the fence to join scouting and hopefully our troop.

The format will be stations, where each scout will attend one and get the needed requirements signed off.
Station 1: will cover requirements 1, 2 and 7

Popcorn Reminder from Mr. Woolfolk

Posted by admin on Oct 17 2019 - 2:01pm

A reminder from the new Popcorn Kernal to continue to sell, sell, sell!

For more information, please refer to the popcorn sales page on the website.
We sell popcorn to raise money for things that we do not include normally in our camping and high adventure fees.  This includes, but not limited to:
  • all the bling (awards, badges) given to Scouts at courts of honor
  • repair and replacement of tents which we loan to Scouts.  Each costs nearly $400.  Instead we could easily charge that as a one time thing and they'd have to buy a tent, so borrowing is a big plus, and our tents are pretty nice -- and everyone having the same tent promotes consistency and projects to the world that Troop 755 is a top notch unit
  • Trailer maintenance and repair:  We have three trailers that require wheels, tires, brakes, lights, and other routine maintenance.
  • miscellaneous things at camps
  • fuel for drivers.  We are going to be more fair to drivers of scouts, and those who pull trailers as the fuel costs are high when you tow.

The troop raises $5000-7000 a year for these expenses.

Pre-camp planning meetings

Posted by bheldke on Sep 19 2019 - 4:21pm

The active parent leaders have received a lot of feedback over the past year and have proposed a tweak to how we deliver our program.

Going forward, we are reserving the regular meeting before a camp out to be a "Camp Planning" meeting.  All merit badge instruction will be suspended for that night. This has many advantages:

  • Planning time: QMs and PLs will have time to plan menus and go through equipment needs without being hasty since they won't be missing part of their merit badge class.  We will have the trailer on-site to review our equipment.
  • Better menus.  I expect more thorough meal planning with more thought and preparation.  Heating up hot dogs and cereal for breakfast is not cooking.
  • Boards of review:  Merit Badge counselors do boards of review instead of instruction so we're hoping we get through more boards, to help the Advancement table catch up
  • Interaction with adult leaders: to ensure they have the instruction they need to execute the patrol method as it was intended, scouts will have time to work with each other and  have some time to think of and ask questions of the adults
